It may sound strange but Christmas decorations mean a lot to me. I have ones that were given to me when I had my first house, ones my mum and gran have made me and ones that I have made with friends during a fun crafty afternoon. Each and everyone has memories attached and I love unpacking the boxes and being reminded of all the good things that have happened.

Making your own decorations is so rewarding and you can share this thoughtful gift with someone and make a memory for them too.

Here are my top 5 Christmas decorations ideas that are sure to be enjoyed year after year.

1: Hand Print Christmas Wreath

Get the whole family involved with this handprint wreath. Such a lovely way to get a snapshot in time of your kids before they’ve grown up too much!

All you need is felt ribbon and some hands to help out.

2: Baubles

Always a classic and you can customise to heart’s content. Fill with sweets, make a cute mini Christmas scene, put in a favourite saying or an in-joke. Use paper, buttons, or any material you want. We have blank baubles you can paint and decorate to suit whatever them you want

3: Personalised Santa Sack

Make it personal with a personalised Santa sack. Great way to get the kids to take part and something they will cherish long into adulthood.

The lovely gift for a new baby and make it with felt, fabric or even wooden letters. We can cut out the letters for you in The Craft Cabin. We have kits available instore too.

4: Polystyrene Decorations

Use fabric, sequin trim, decorative buttons or felt. Polystyrene balls are very easy to work with and give a great finish. Tutorials for all these can be found here so no reason not to!

5: Decoupage

Grab your most Christmassy fabric, napkins or paper and go to town with some decoupage. Add embellishments such as these berries and even a message and you have something truly unique that will bring a smile to anyone’s face. The heart is a lovely shape or you can use a house, letters, or make some coasters to keep the mulled wine off the table!
