- 2 different coloured Aran yarn
- Size 4.5mm hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Felt
- Ribbon
Abbreviations
- ch = chain(s)
- dc = double crochet
- tr = treble stitch
- htr = half treble
- blo= back loop only
- sl st = slip stitch
- st(s) = stitch(es)
The Pattern
To Begin: Ch 26
Round 1: Dc into the second st from the hook, dc in the next 23 sts, 3dc in the last st, and turn. Now working on the other side of the chain, dc in the next 23 sts, then 3dc in the last st [We are making a very long oval by crocheting around the chain] (52sts)
Round 2: Dc inc, 23 dc, 3dc inc,23dc, 2dc inc (58sts)
Round 3-6: Dc in every stitch around
Round 7-18: 2ch, tr in every stitch around
Change to different coloured yarn
Round 19-31: Tr in every stitch around
Round 6: Sk first 2 Sts, TR in next 15 Sts. (Ch 1; Sk 1 St. TR in next 15 Sts) 6 more times. Ch 1; TR in next St (which is part of the Ch 4 from previous row). Ch 4; turn.
Fold down the top
Lens
Row 1: Magic Ring with a base of 10 htr (10sts)
Round 2: Htr in in each stitch around (20sts)
Round 3: [Htr, htr inc] x 10 times (30sts)
Round 4: [2dc, dc inc] x 10 times (40sts)
Round 5: [3dc, dc inc] x 10 times (50sts)
Change to different coloured yarn that you used for the body
Round 6: [4dc, dc inc] x 10 times, join to the first st, ch1 (60sts)
Round 7: Htr BLO in each st around, join to the first stitch, ch 1 (60sts)
Round 8: Htr in the 3rd loop in each st around, join to the first st of the round and fasten off leaving a tail to sew to the bag body (60sts)
Finishing
Cut four pieces of felt in red, yellow, green and blue,
Cut a white piece for the lens,
Cut a heart in felt for the flash.
Glue all together, Loop in ribbon through your work, and glue on the underside of the fold
