On Saturday 14th May 2016, we were proud to host Ireland’s 2nd ever ‘knit-in’ to make knitted or crocheted breast prosthesis for women who have had a mastectomy or lumpectomy.
Knitted Knockers are 100% cotton breast prostheses for women that have undergone a mastectomy or lumpectomy. Ladies that have undergone surgery are usually provided with silicone breast prosthesis which some ladies have found to be uncomfortable, heavy and may rub against the scars left after surgery, causing rashes and pain.
Knitted Knockers are soft, lightweight breast prosthesis that are comfortable to wear. They are knitted or crocheted by volunteers and given free of charge to women who request them by the organisation Knitted Knockers Ireland. Click on this link to see their Facebook page for more information.
Here are a few images of the day – we had lots of chat, tea, creativity and fun! Thank you to all who came along on the day and also to those who took one of our packs to create the knockers at home – sure, you’re all just brilliant!
