– FABRIC, FABRIC CO-ORDINATE FOR POCKET, THREAD, CORD, FELT, HAND NEEDLES OR SEWING MACHINE, SCISSORS

Step 1

Fold over your main piece of fabric and cut it 14″ width x 19″ height.

Step 2

Fold right side to right side and mark 1″ up from the fold at the bottom on both sides. Make a mark either side at the top at the 1″, 2″ and 3″ points.

Step 3

Cut out your pocket 6″ x 4 1/2″. Fold in the sides once and fold down the top twice. Iron to hold in place. sew across the double fold at the top of the pocket. Place in the centre of one side of your bag and sew around three sides. Tucking in the edges as you go. Sew close to the edge.

Step 4

Fold over your main bag right side to right side. Starting at the bottom (where the fabric is folded) skip the first inch, where you marked previously. Sew up the side until reach the 3″ mark. Skip over the inch and continue sewing to the top until you reach the top. Repeat for the other side.

Step 5

Fold over the top of your bag at the 1″ mark. Tip: Put your thumbs at the mark on either side and fold out. Iron. Fold down at 2″ mark and iron. Their should be a gap on the inside of your bag either side for the cord.

Step 6

Sew around the top of your bag using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Step 7

Turn you bag right side round and thread the cord first through the right, all the way around and back out the same gap. Do the same for left, all the way round and back out the same gap. You should have two cords hanging out each side.

Step 7

Turn your bag inside out. Tie a knot in the ends of your cords, Bring it down the inside of the bag and brring the knot through the gap at the bottom. Using a zig zag stitch to hold cord and then close the seam using a regualr stitch.Sew a decoration on your pocket to finish.
