No crochet hooks. No knitting needles. No problem. Let’s have a look at some fun and funky crafts that involve no special skills just some yarn and a little bit of time.

God’s Eye

Starting with the God’s Eye. I really love this craft because you can adjust for a range of ages and even though it is so simple it looks fantastic (and complicated!!)

You will need:

• Yarn in different colours
• 4 or 6 Lollipop sticks/Skewers/Straws.
• Glue

Unicorn Dreamcatcher

Unicorns….dreamcatchers…a match made in sparkly heaven.

You can really go to town on decorating this unicorn dreamcatcher.  Add ribbon, glitter and lace or add butterflies and flowers galore.

You will need:

• Embroidery hoop/ cardboard cutout for the base
• Yarn and ribbon in rainbow colours
• Glitter paper for the horn (and flowers)
• Coloured card for the flowers and leaves.
• White and pink felt for ears

Finger Knit Octopus

This guy is so lovely to make and super cute to boot.

His tentacles are knit on two fingers, so perfect for little hands to make.

You will need:

• 1 x ball of Chunky yarn.
• Googly eyes

Instructions:

Here are the instructions for finger knitting on two fingers.

1. Knit 4 tentacles 30cm long each. you can go longer or shorter depending on how big you want the octopus to be
2. For the “head”, wrap a ball of yarn about 6cm across.
3. Place the tentacle s over the ball of yarn at the midpoint so there are equal lengths hanging down.
4. Place the remaining tentacles evenly around the head.
5. Tie a piece of yarn tightly around the base of the head to hold tentacles in place
6. Tie on some ribbon
7. Add googly eyes
8. Name it!

Woven Coaster

This is a really relaxing way to enjoy a rainy afternoon for kids and adults alike. I made my own cardboard loom (which was half the fun). You can make your loom to any size if you would like some coasters or a nice picture.

What you need:

• Cardboard
• Scissors
• Ruler
• Cotton or string
• Wool in different weights and colours
• Roving (which is wool before it is spun into strands

I used the roving to add a bit of texture by weaving it and then gently teasing a bit out to make the bumps.
