Crochet For Improvers

(Above – last terms projects. New project video up soon!)

If you are familiar with the basic crochet stitches – doubles, trebles and chains – you why not come along to our improvers workshop to take on a wonderful project (or two) for yourself, your family or your home!

The Course:

Over the course of 6 weeks, you will work on completing your project with the help of the tutor. You’ll learn more advanced crocheting skills and techniques depending n the project(s) you choose. You will also be using a pattern and taught how to read it and problem solve.

We encourage students to start and finish at least one project in the six weeks. Students are free to start a second project, time permitting.

Option 1: Autumn Jumper

Using a wonderful new stitch – the fisherman stitch – you’ll create a beautiful loose pattern and work into a jumper. Lots of help given in the sewing up of the piece. We’ve used Stylescraft’s Denim Look Jeanie yarn but any Aran weight yarn can be used.

Option 2: Fine Crochet Coaster

Using fine cotton, learn to crochet these intricate coasters or use a thicker cotton to create larger doilies. Great way to learn new stitches and techniques.

Option 3: Plaited Cowl

Lovely chunky cowl to keep you warm this winter. This pattern uses some interesting techniques to achieve a cabled look.

Graph Teddy BearOption 4: Graph Pattern Teddy

Learn how to read crochet graph patterns and create a lovely graph teddy for a cushion or blanket using popcorn stitch.

Option 5: Hexagon Blanket

This advanced blanket will introduce you to a number of new skills and techniques and is suitable for a more experienced crocheter. Combining new granny square designs and a challenging piecing together ‘jigsaw’, the blanket will become a work of art.

Option 6: Arigurumi Characters

Learn the Japanese crochet art of Arigurumi and make one of these beautiful characters. Learn how crochet in the round, even out body parts, stitch up and finish. Is there a lucky little one in your life who’d like a lion, sheep or unicorn?!
