Crochet For Improvers

If you are familiar with the basic crochet stitches – doubles, trebles and chains – you why not come along to our improvers workshop to take on a wonderful project (or two) for yourself, your family or your home!

The Course:

Over the course of 6 weeks, you will work on completing your project with the help of the tutor. You’ll learn more advanced crocheting skills and techniques depending n the project(s) you choose. You will also be using a pattern and taught how to read it and problem solve.

We encourage students to start and finish at least one project in the six weeks. Students are free to start a second project, time permitting.

Crochet JumperOption 1: Autumn Jumper

Using a wonderful new stitch – the fisherman stitch – you’ll create a beautiful loose pattern and work into a jumper. Lots of help given in the sewing up of the piece. We’ve used Stylescraft’s Denim Look Jeanie yearn but any Aran weigh year can be used.

Crochet CushionOption 2: Cushion

We are often asked how to do a chevron pattern. This cushion demonstrates the stitch and can be worked into a cushion of any size or indeed a blanket. Multiple chevron stripes can be used to create a more layered look.

Call the midwife Blanket
Option 3: Call The Midwife Blanket

This ever-popular pattern is traditional yet very modern. Done in rows rather than squares it’s a good break from granny squares! The size and colour can be altered.A great improvers project for someone just moving from a beginner! A lovely christening gift!

Option 4: Amigurumi – Lion

The Japanese word amigurumi means little crochet. It focuses on crocheting smaller items, mostly animals and other ‘cute’ characters. Crocheting in the round, using finer hooks and sewing up are all part of this project.

Option 5: Floral Blanket

This advanced blanket will introduce you to a number of new skills and techniques and is suitable for a more experienced crocheter. Combining new granny square designs, flowers, stripes and a challenging piecing together ‘jigsaw’, the blanket will become a work of art.
